Shanti Groove shout out for the future

Yes it's true, Jason Flournoy, the inimitable banjo virtuosity, is moving out of the Shanti Groove and on to the Larry Keel Natural Bridge Band. No doubt we love what Shanti Groove is with Jason, and will miss him when he's gone. We have booked many shows before his departure so we can ALL enjoy as much of the sound we've created together as possible. The band wants to continue building on its six year history and is exploring what the future might look like - when one door closes, others open, ya know. The banjo will be absent after the State Bridge show Sunday, September 3rd. We are working on a possible return for one last Colorado run with the banjo October 18 thru 23, keep you posted when we know. Check the schedule at JamBase, the State Bridge show is listed incorrectly right now as the 4th.
Thanks for all the support,
the Shanti Groovers

90.5 WKHS Wharton, Baltimore Maryland "Road Trippin" with Bill Wright

Bill Wright hosts Road Trippin' on Thurs. nights from 8-10:30 on 90.5 fm WKHS out of Baltimore, MD. An immense amount of just great jams, from what he likes and I don't think he plays it unless its good. He's also very very down with The Shanti when they were first together, and now the three remaining members of the Shanti playing in the Shanti Groove. What a together sounding group. I have never seen them, but would love to. They are such a cut above the rest. I am not sure where I go when I listen, but they are a band that plays so you can hear them and not one that just listen too. I think that might be the same thing, but their message is quality...and I think it is the fusion of bluegrass into rock into harmonies. They seem like a band where the music plays the band and not vice versa.

A great time was had by all at Cervantes last weekend!! I'll personally be recovering for the next few days. What a great scene it was on Saturday night. The boys played for nearly 5 hours on NYE and rocked the packed house down!! Uncle Vic showed up just when we needed his burst of energy and closed down the house with Shanti Groove in proper form.

Garian- one of my new years resolutions, errr intentions, is to put more info in my profile when I get some time. Nice to see you at Cervantes!

Got to catch the Mark Vann benefit show on Friday and it was great. We celebrated Jason's Birthday(Mudflap) Friday night at the Boulder. Everyone was great, but Shanti Groove stole the show with an awsome set. They played "Ask the Fish" and "Funky Mountain Fogdown" in honor of Mark!! Vince and Jeff Austin sat in for most of the set and it was GREAT!!

Then in Breckenridge at Sherpa's on Saturday, it was Juri's birthday(yeah really), and they played perhaps their best show of the year. The Ski Grand Prix was in town and some celebrities were in attendance. "Shock G" of Digital Underground(supposedly gave Tupac his start) was blown away by Shanti Groove and got on stage and did a "Humpty Dance" rap for about 10 minutes with them. Also, actor Jason Schwartzman(sic?), - "Ethan" in "Slackers". also in "Rushmore" and "Shop Girl". People were getting their pix taken with him and I didn't know who it was. He was grooving hard as anyone there and was asking me all about Shanti Groove. FUN night!!

Yes, it is Cervante's. Shanti Groove plays the late night on NYE and yes, probably until morning. No matter where you go, get tix for Cervante's now. When NYE rolls around you'll be glad you did. It's only something like $20 for both the 30th and 31st for Shanti Groove and Moonshine Still.

Pacific Northwest Shows

Hey all, just dropping a note to let everyone know that the Pacific NW run was a great time this past week. The band has been in excellent form. PDX was an amazing musical perfomance and despite the lack of people showing up, all of us that were there had a wonderful time lounging on couches, or dancing on the very high quality dance floor in the Fez Ballroom.

Thanks to Dylan Toguas and everyone else that we met in Belingham that showed us a great time. The word that best sums up wed night is Patron. Cheers. The room that this show was in has excellent acoustics and a really classy setup, too bad i cant say as much for the people running it. Belingham is an amazing town regardless.

Eugene was the funnest of this weeks shows in my opinion. The band that opened for shanti helped pack in a little eugene hippy scene of some fairly wild dreadeyes having way too much fun. Shanti played at a local party after the show until almost 6 am. Thanks to everyone who drove, Chris , Shawn, Highlander, and those other kids from portland. Thanks to you guys for letting us have a place to land for a while in the wee hours of the morning. I hope to see all of you again real soon, keep eugene real.

Thanks again to the band for this run, playing your hearts out even tho attendance was slightly low, hopefully between now and the next run out here some real serious networking can occur. Anyone who would like to get in touch with me and have drinks b4 a show or anything in the future feel free to drop me an email. - Peace- Ben
John, forgive me for the awkward moment when I entered,
at first...d'oh!! Jason F....always fun to watch you play, and
I'm in my 7th month of learning banjo, and I'm learning
plenty just from watching our technique.

Thank you as always, guys, and best wishes to you and yours

I had heard of them when I lived on the east coast, but now after moving out here to Santa Fe New Mexico and them playing gigs all the time 5 hours away from me I thought I'd give them a listen.

Shanti Groove in St. Louis- PLUS... big news for LOSHeads from Fayetteville!!

Just got back to the hot hot desert-record heat, 105 today in PHX. Flew up to St. Louis Friday after work to catch Shanti Groove and Vince @Mississippi Nights. Unfortunately, I arrived late and missed alot of the show. Great crowd still there when I arrived. The reviews were great from everyone there!! Aftershow at the Alabaster Brown loft in St Louis was worth the trip though! Vince, Scrogs, Chris and Jason (and others-I even grabbed the mic in a drunken stupor and sang a little-be glad u missed that!!) joined Alabaster Brown for a rip-roarin' great pick that went on til the mornin'.

I heard from a few lucky people that were in Boulder at the Fox last night that Shanti Groove absolutely KILLED IT at the Katrina benefit. Jeff Austin and Vince sat in for a few. Wish I could of made that one!

Woke up Saturday morn after a couple hours of half sleep and headed for Fayetteville in hopes of seeing Vince take the stage with Drew, Greg Garrison and Jeff Sipe for a suedo-LOS show-as it was billed that way by George's Majestic. When we got there Vince got right up on stage and played a GREAT solo set. Then the Drew Emmitt Band came on and ripped through 6-7 songs and sounded great. The energy was growing as Vince's guitar was still on stage the whole time. Drew announced "a special guest" and out came Vince. The roof almost blew off the place as Drew says "this sure looks like a Leftover Salmon show to me". Line-up was Vince, Drew, Greg, Jeff Sipe!, Rob Barocco on keys, and the new young banjo player for Drew's band Chris Parnocki(sic?). They bust into "Zombie Jamboree" and the place was literally bouncing hard!! They played a 45 minute to an hour long set with a "Gimme da ting", "Bend in the River", and a Euphoric "Euphoria". HOLY CRAP!! this was unreal. People were dancing so hard and sweating-it was warm- it was literally raining inside the joint!! I felt lucky as hell for making it out there!! All that was missing was Billy McKay (and obviously the late great Vanngogh), but Rob Barocco did a great job and the kid on banjo is great and fits the LOS music perfect!! He plays more edgy and his chops are "Vanngogh-esque"-as Nate put it- more so than Noam's more technical playing was. Plays more like Mark or Flap, which I love for the slamgrass. For me it seemed like Noam never knew what to do when Drew picked up the electric guitar but this kid sure as hell did!! He paid tribute to Vince before they started and simply said "I just want say- Vince you're awsome" and he said the first time he heard LOS was the reason he plays. Said what an honor it was to be standing on stage with them. I can't call this a LOS reunion without Billy-to me it's just better with Bill McKay- but this was pretty friggin awsome!!
It's a start anyway...... Oh, BY THE WAY... Colonel Bruce Hampton and the Codetalkers played on the small stage after the LOS jam and this would have been worth the trip alone!!! SSSIIIICCCKKKK!!. Dark Star Orchestra played the main stage and they were sounding great. The room really emptied out during the DSO show. People were packed in to see the Col. as this was a big LOS crowd and they gravitated to the small stage for the Col Bruce. The energy never got anywhere near the level it was at when Vince and Drew were on stage together though at the main stage.

Looking forward to seeing the Shanti Groove again in a few weeks at the Fox for their annual Barn Burner. Let the Good Times Roll!!!

hey john - janis from family groove here. awesome running into you at the bowling alley, and sorry i couldn't make it to the HoB show tonight. adam lied for me without my consent and told you i couldn't make it cause i was getting sick. the real truth is that i needed to do my laundry tonight for our upcoming tour, and i also had one too many martinis at 10-pin, and could barely sort my whites and darks! hahaha. anyway, thanks again for the guest list spot even tho i couldn't use it, and i will most certainly catch you guys in the future. good luck on the road!!

review 8-26,27,28 Wow! What a weekend!!! (long post)

Just got back to Jeff's house in Boulder from Nedfest and I'm sitting here trying to unwind, thinking about the weekend I've just had. Said in my last post I was heading up to CO and that this weekend should be epic....

Well, what can I say?!! These past three days have far surpassed my expectations. I arrived a little late into Denver friday night and went straight to Cervantes. I was
pleasantly surprised to walk into a crowded room -if you haven't been there it's a BIG room. The energy level in the room-and balcony upstairs- was off the hook! Around 300 people bouncing off the ceiling and groovin hard to a tight show which included a smoking hot older Mudflap original, "Free Bumper Hop", with a nice little mando twist I haven't heard before. These guys are on fire, playing tighter and even vocally harmonizing so much better than
even just a year ago. Other highlights were a great new Scroggins original, "Cold Hard Ground" and an uplifting, mind boggling "Kimoche". The 2nd set was tight as can be and the energy and vibe was as good as I've seen at any show at Cervantes.

Woke up Sat @ 11:00 at Frank @ Jing's -thanks again for the couch Frankie! Headed up to Boulder for lunch @ the Southern Sun. Young and in the Gutter-Jason Flournoy and
Scroggins acoustic collaboration with an everchanging list of guests was playing outside on the patio- John Heiland on mando today with Kevin from Sugarloaf SB and 3 guest banjos- it was a banjerfest!. Really enjoyed watching Jeremy from Telluride play claw hammer style. Past guests Y @ITG have been Jeff Austin, Vince Herman, Pete Wernick Will Downs, Eric Tureen or any other Boulder musician that is around. I've been living in the hell that is Phoenix
in summer and to sit out on that patio sippin great brew, watching children dancing and laughing
and dogs hangin around, and 75 degrees and sunny-there were a couple of little welcome sun showers
and it was HEAVENLY! The food was great, the pick was great and there were alot of folks packed
out on the patio!.... well, time to head to Fort Fun.

Got to catch up with Jason "Flap" on the way up to the Mish which was nice. After a great dinner out on the deck overlooking the Poudre River it was time for "Head for the Hills"- Shanti Groove's support on Fri and Sat. These kids are awsome! They are 19-20 yr olds from Fort Collins
with a bluegrass band. I can't tell you how impressive they are. By the time they were mid-set the Mish was getting packed and there was a line out to the bar to get in.
There was still a long line to get in as Shanti Groove took the stage. Mishawaka is one of my favorite venues of all time with the Poudre River running by in front of you and
behind the stage and the tall pines behind you. They came out and opened with "Mason's Luck" and never let up. People were packed onto the platform in front of the stage going nuts! This was one of the best live shows I've seen anywhere. The energy level was like a vintage
Leftover Salmon show. They played some great new material and it's some of the best stuff yet. Also, John Hartford, Beatle's (Get Back) covers, and a first time ever "US Blues" GD cover. Guest appearance's by members of Head for the Hills were great. There was a rap by the singer from HFTH into Matthews Jam that was great. I would love to see more of this HFTH, SG, 1-2 punch I'd say there were around 600 people there and I think by the grins and comments and sold out shirts, everyone there got off on the show like I did.

After a couple hours of sleep at Johnny's- thanks again John it was great hangin out in Sugarloaf with you-
it was off to Nedfest. What a beautiful day and a blast this was. After a great set by Vinnie and the Taxi, Shanti Groove came out and had the place going nuts. The stage was full of guests for the set with Cecil "Peanut" Daniels on horn for a few and then Vince and Billy McKay came out(God I love when Vince and Billy play with them). It creates that LOS type energy level and everyone who's'ever been to a festival with Vince on stage you know what it's like. Also, guest dobro player for almost whole setand he was awsome.
"Long Way back to Vicksburg" with Vince, Reed Foehl(Acoustic Junction, Great American Taxi) and Billy was SICK!!

In summary, this weekend was, in my opinion, the best and the tightest, and even vocally and harmonically
best that the Shanti boy's have offered up. 6 SETS OF MUSIC AND ZERO REPEATS!!(except the brand new "Cold Hard
Ground"-Fri and Sun.-you can probably blame me(or thank me) for that though, since I begged Jason to play it again).
That's alot of material. From Juri's bass lines, Chris's drums-and vocals, we need more of your vocals Elvis!
Johnny is playing the mando better than ever and just keeps getting better, and the mind bending guitar and banjo
I think it's safe to say they are playing their best ever right now. All of the new stuff and first timers were great!!

Thanks again to everyone for the hospitality and great times, it's always great to come HOME! Saw so many great friends and met so many new ones. I can't wait until spring when I move back to the Front Range where I belong.

kind regards,

JK

I'm heading up to Denver for the 3 day Shanti Groove weekend next week. Friday at Cervantes, Sat. at the Mish and NEDFEST on Sunday. Anyone that can make it should get there at any cost. This should be an epic weekend!!! I need to get out of the desert for awhile and what better way to do it than in Denver, Fort Fun and Nederland with the Shanti boys. C-ya'll there.

Hey Guys,
I was at the Appalachian Uprising a couple of weeks back and i had the opportunity to catch Shanti play an incredible set on the second day of the festival (Saturday June 4th). All the late night people who came to see Yonder had left and their were only a couple of heads left, but Shanti played a hearts out set that blew my mind. Ive been looking for the show now since then without having any luck. Is there any chance anyone knows where i can get it? Thanks a bunch and have a great day.
Peace and Love,
Isaac

I was devistated to here the news that the driver of the red sled, my illegitimate father marc c johnson is no longer with us. I found out via phone just before a gig in anchorage, alaska and it is the worst news ive ever gotten. I dedicated the show in his honor and also played some tunes he had taught me. We will be dedicating the show to him this sat. march 12 at the fox theatre in boulder. All i can say is i cherished my time with marc and i looked up to him in so many ways and i thank god i knew him. Peace jason

It certainly made me smile and for some reason all hell broke loose with the two cats here while i was reading it. ~~ I was so into the story (and the cats are always so loud) that i didnt notice what they were doing. ~ Those little guys managed to eat through a new unopened bag of cat food... They have a full bowl of food but they love to make messes.~~ Their names fit them well i guess... Munchie and puff are such sweet companions.

~~ I hope all is well out there for people~

i have been camping a lot which had been awesome. There are record wildflower blooms this year all over california. The carrizo plains was breathtaking and Death Valley is spectacular. I was able to run through sunflowers right after wading through the lake on the floor of Death Valley. There isn't usually a lake there. It is pretty much an alkali sink area, but because of the wonderful rains its full now. ~

~If anyone has a moment out there could you please sign a petition to protect ANWR, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. There are countless amounts of species and people that are counting on everyone not to drill that area. There are tons of petitions at sites such as care2.com, denlines.com, greenpeace and the sierra club. Or just email your representatives directly.

Oh wow. My friend V and I had such an incredible time going to see the Bob Dylan/Merle Haggard Show at the Pantages THeatre on their opening night.

It was truly a quintessent night. After some nice chillin in the parking lot, meeting Rocky who is a regular security man at the bob shows, V and i headed for the pantages...
There was a man in the alley there who played us some music from his cassette player in his shopping cart. He was laughing as he told me that most of the water bottles he recycles are half full of water.
It was true. He pulled out water bottle after plastic, shiny water bottle, unscrewed the cap and splash! ...dumped out water onto the sidewalk. The alley smelled like the process of rotting apples had been going on undisturbed for years.
V and i had to get into the show so i gave him some cigarettes, a repentant smile, and we left.
There were chairs in front of the bar next to the Pantages so V and i waited for a chance to get in. Tickets were going for 80 bucks or more and i really had no expectations to get in.
Kudos to V, who is a regulare concert pro and managed to get some tix a bit after set break. ~
Immediately i knew that i had to dance at the show and i didnt want to block anyones view. Luckily our seats were front left orchestra so i went to the wall and danced. Of course security came and told me i had to sit again.
I sat down and told V if i didnt come back in 10 minutes to meet me upstairs if he wanted to dance. ~ I headed up.
Somewhere in between the floors there was a hallways with lots of room to dance but when i started to shake it, a security man told me i couldnt be there...~~ i asked him where could i go to dance.
He told me to go to the top and pointed up.
I flew up the stair way to the music of the band onstage. Such energy was in the air~~ (but some of that might have been the 4 security guys following me :)~~

I came to the top of the pantages and the view of bob and the band was so awesome. Throughout the whole last set the security dudes had nothing else to do but try to get me to stop dancing in the aisle, where no one was... It was pretty hilarious actually. If i stood in the doorway on the outside of the door line they coudlnt bother me, but if i stepped in where i could actually see the band and also dance, they tried to stop me...
Anywho, im rambling...
During the last song of the night a seat opened up next to me in the very back row. I just up the step to it and began to dance. i asked the girl sitting next to me if i could dance there. She said yes and i thanked her.
The 4 security dudes stared at me and i did something i rarely do. I lifted both hands and gave them them 2 birds. They laughed alot with me and then finally let me dance... It was such an incredible encore to All Along the Watchtower when my friend V came up and hugged me ~~

oh my gosh...the night got ever crazier, but i dont want to ramble too much. There is a subway across the street from the pantages too, so after the show V and i walked down into it...

It was so trippy. On the way down there were lots of people descending the stairs too
There was a huge gust of wind as V and i kneeled near the south tracks... the last subway/train came and we looked up. Everyone was gone.
V suggested we leave so we turned around. A map on the wall of Los Angeles drew us in and we stared for eternity. V nudged me and we began to ascend the same stairs we had just come down. Except everything was different.
There was a trail of blood all along the way, from the lines that marked the subway doors entrance, up every step. Then there were dozens of police coming down the stairs...
V and I were the only ones going up, and even at the top the world had transformed.
Where there was once a peaceful skyscraper i could only see the Red, white and blue flashing lights of the police cars. Fire trucks too. There was a lot of red. V had to pull me away as I walked toward the largest pools of blood...

We walked in a daze down the sidewalk

Passing a bar/restaurant on the way to my van, a man jumped out from the doorway.
He told us there was no cover to get in and i had to p, so we headed in.
There was such awesome jazzy, swing, blues type music going on. I felt so lucky to have stumbled upon this place. I was so happy that a man had invited us in.

V was drinking, so another guy came up and did some swing dancing moves with me. I dont know how to formally swing dance but he was a great lead so it was really fun~~
The night ended with the police searching V in our scary republican neighborhood . (They asked to search me but i said i really just wanted to get home and go to sleep.)

It was such a bob dylan/ merle haggard experience.~~~
the show was great and living out my experience was pretty darn fun.~~
woohoo~~ life is love and love is meant to be lived.

Much love, peace~~ t

Here's some new for those of you who weren't there...

so you can get ready for the festival season...

you shanti GROOOOve!!

From: Pastor Tim
Date: Thu, 10 Mar 2005 15:46:48 -0800 (PST)
Subject: [yonder] seriously anahuac'd... if such a thing is possible
(HBRSBc & SGc w/oYc)

Hi, folks --

Sorry to be so incommunicado but it's been mighty busy lately... and as
my
friends know, 'busy' is a four-letter word in my lexicon, but so the
season goes. Still, I had to share a funny story because it revolves
around Casa de Troutman, certain itinerant bluegrass musicians, and the
fine art of a well-conceived and executed anahuac.

Anahuac (pronounced "ANNA-whack") may or may not be the original
creation
of one Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon), but it seems to have taken on a
life of its own. That said, I haven't heard of too many successful
anahuacs lately so the telling of this story may be your WARNING
("Danger,
danger, Will Robinson!!!") that it's on the rise once again. And keep
in
mind, folks, festival season's just around the corner.
;^{)}=>+

My story begins about 4 AM last Saturday morning after the second of
two
nights with Hot Buttered Rum String Band. The Butter-boys had played
Bozeman on Thursday night, we all drove over for the Friday show in
Missoula, ate a wonderful meal at Casa de Troutman (home of MT Bob
Troutman & Molly McCauley, who was celebrating her 50th birthday), and
the
Butter-boys tore up a terrific show at The Other Side. Afterwards
everyone headed back up the hill to Bob & Molly's place where the band
and
a few other folks were spending the night. I think Nat, Aaron, Bob & I
were probably the last to hit the beds and scattered sleeping bags, and
I
remember noticing that the big grandfather clock in the living room
said
it was 10 minutes to 4 AM as I laid my weary head down for a niiiice
loooong sleeeeep... or so I thought.

The rest is a little like a dream... or maybe a nightmare. I remember
hearing the tiniest of faint 'plinking' sounds just before dawn,
barely
loud enough to rouse me from serious snoresville, and all I could think
was "Who in the world would be re-stringing a mandolin at this
hour...?"
A moment later all hell broke loose as five bluegrass musicians cut
loose
with the traditional singing of (at the top of their lungs) "ANAHUAC!!!
ANAHUAC!!! ANAHUAC!!!" And my finely tuned ear quickly caught up with
my
now sitting-up body in realizing that these five musicians were all
playing in at least four different keys. (Needless to say, anahuac is
less about musicianship and more about pre-dawn surprise, but you'd
probably figured that out by now.) My next thought was, "How in the
HELL
did the Butter boys manage to wake up and organize themselves for an
anahuac on only three hours sleep?!?!" Soooooo, I rolled over, flipped
the obligatory friendly bird to the band, and -- much to my surprise!
--
realized I didn't know a single one of the people playing in my face!
The
next thought in my slowly burbling pre-dawn brain was "How in the hell
did
ANOTHER bluegrass band get into this house at 7 o'clock in the
morning?!?!" But of course, this wasn't a time for questions.

The band quickly stood up and headed for the downstairs bedrooms where
their remaining victims lay blissfully unaware, and as they hit the
stairs
I heard one of the guys say, "I don't even know who that was." I
called
out, "That's okay, I don't know who the @&$% you are either." Over the
next couple of minutes I heard three different bedrooms anahuac'd in
succession (along with a couple of pretty serious screams), and before
long the same five musicians came trooping back up the stairs laughing
and
clapping each other on the back for what had to be one of the finest
anahuacs in modern history. (Somebody PLEASE share this story with
Vince
because I think he'd be mighty proud of these boys.)

Troutman came dragging his sorry @$$ up the stairs a few moments later
so
I rolled out of my bag, threw on some sweats, and came into the kitchen
with only one question: "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS?!" The answer?
"We're
Shanti Groove!" I think my reply was something along the lines of "Oh,
well that makes sense."

Turns out Shanti Groove had finished playing a very successful gig up
at
The Beartooth Theater in Anchorage, Alaska; flown back to Seattle;
immediately hopped in the van and drove over 500 miles straight through
to
Missoula for the express purpose of anahuac'ing the Hot Buttered Rum
String Band before 8 o'clock in the morning. Now that's some serious
COJONES!!! Only later did we learn that Bob and HBRSB's competent and
savvy road mgr (a different Molly, whom I'm sure many of you have now
met)
were in on the whole thing from the very beginning... which explains
exactly why a completely DIFFERENT bluegrass band managed to wake us
all
from a sound sleep in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, March 5.

That, my friends, is one helluva fine anahuac. Vince, I do believe the
bar has been raised and the gauntlet thrown down, and I predict a very
active and startling pre-dawn festival season for 2005.

Respectfully submitted for your approval,
+ Pastor Tim
Official definition of 'anahuac' from the 1937 Funk & Wagnall Practical
Standard Dictionary (with a particular emphasis on the word FUNK):
"ana-huac: (noun; pronounced "ANNA-whack")
1.) a disturbing rendition of an off-key song played by various
bluegrass
musicians (usually drunk) around the unsuspecting tent of another
bluegrass band in the pre-dawn hours of a festival, often accompanied
by
the removal of tent poles from their moorings, and followed quickly by
running away while laughing hysterically;
2.) a song that usually goes something like this:
ANAHUAC!!! ANAHUAC!!!
YOU USED TO BE A HOME BUT YOU'RE NOT ANYMORE!!!
ANAHUAC!!!ANAUHUAC!!!
YOU USED TO BE A HOME BUT YOU'RE NOT!!!
[at which point all the musicians run away]
3.) variation perpetrated by members of Yonder Mountain String Band
(oYc)
on the dome tents of members of the Floodplain Gang in the pre-dawn
hours
of 10-02-99 at the Stafford Lake Festival outside Novato, CA:
ANAHUAC!!! ANAHUAC!!!
YOU USED TO BE A DOME BUT YOU'RE NOT ANYMORE!!!
ANAHUAC!!! ANAUHUAC!!!
YOU USED TO BE A DOME BUT YOU'RE NOT!!!"
[I don't know whether the Floodplain Gang ever paid YMSB back for that
one, but they should have... and may still reunite just to pull it

Public Thank You for Celebrating Molly's 50th B-Day in Missoula

Here is a public shout out to the Shanti boys for scheduling the end of their tour through Missoula for Molly's 50th birthday last Saturday. Some of you may not know this but Shanti Groove drove all night from Seattle to arrive in Missoula at 7 AM Saturday morning. The reason? The Hot Buttered Rum String Band was staying at my house after playing in Missoula the night before and the Shanti boys annawacked (woke up) the whole house. John Heiland then proceeded to make breakfast for everybody in the house. That was sweet because I went back to bed after the annawacking!

Oh yes, Molly sat in with the band for a tune on Saturday night. She had lots of liquid courage!!!

Fun times in Missoula!!!

One of the guys I was with got kicked out of Luckey's stumbling drunk and I had to give him a lift home and then I got a DWI...Naw, that last part didn't happen but I was afraid it would so I scooted myself on home. I hope you guys managed to find a place to rest your heads. I had a great time though. Juri--it was good seeing you, thanks for the poster perks and for playing Steam-powered aereo plain-it made me really happy. Please pass on my greetings to all the boys back in Boulder and tell Gerry the thing I said about popping up in my dreams. So bizarre. Have a great show in Portland. I'll catch you guys the next time around.

Week in and the shows have been great. Vince flew out to meet us Last thursday in Tahoe and has been driving around in the Shanti van with us. We also have had people flying out from Colorado, Az, driving down from Oregon and Washington to join in the moveable feast. Thanks to the Norths, John, and Jeff, Jair, and Collin for taping all the shows. We have recordings of all the shows with vince and will be posting them on the net sometime soon. Hope to see some more familliar faces down the road on the next two weeks of the tour.

Wow~~ Shanti groove is amazing!

It was so awesome to spend Valentines night with the band in Long Beach, and then also to see them in San Diego.
I just had to take one of my bestest friends to the SD show, especially since she is hoping to move to colorado soon~ and we both had an incredible time~

~ My friend and I got to show the bands guitarist, Jason, this wierd algae thing her and i pulled from the beach after the show... We were skipping along the shore, examining the seaweed and we found a huge 5 foot long algae thingy...It is like a huge walking stick, and its fascinating looking~ We took it, so that we could ask our Biology professors about it, especially since one of them specializes in Marine biologist.~~

Anywho, What great shows Long beach and San Diego were. Thank you so so so much to the band for coming down to so cali....
You guys play incredible together and really get me shakin it ~*~

right now i'm sitting here at work (the rancho santa ana botanic garden) databasing on a friday night~ i've been so busy with school that i have to put in my work hours on nights and weekends~~~
Its raining here and Bob dylan is singing Baby let me follow you down~

i got to see lightning flashes all night from the 3rd story here, so work has been romantic and almost relaxing~~

Oh! If Jason the banjo player reads this, what song were you singing at winstons by the band?

ok, if its alright im going to share a poem of mine, since i write a ton of poetry and its nice to have others read it~

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
What could it be, within me
That draws the whiplashed air into a static cling smile

When the words stop flowing
and deconstruction becomes
my latin lover
Sending wishes for orange trails to call me
onward
Lose years of sleep
and chalk it up to mania
You lost control of
all that mattered to
who you were born to be
Designated by who?
Who wrote my future history?
I am nothing
and nothing in life is going
to get a hold on me
...

Much love ~~~Peace within~*~*~

Hey guys--killer hoedown at the Outlook! Loved our road trip to Boulder and beyond, and had the best week of the year! Did anyone tape the shows?

We look forward to details of the upcoming Tucson show...if you send fliers we'll post the heck out of our side of town.

Love, Jeau (P.S. thanks for servin' up pasta on the mountain! Tasty times two...)
